1 Size Does Not Fit All NJ Hospital Property Tax Exemptions

Law360, New York (July 13, 2015, 11:35 AM EDT) -- In a case of first impression, in a decision issued on June 26, 2015, the Tax Court of New Jersey invalidated a significant portion of the real property tax exemption of Morristown Medical Center, a facility which is part of the Atlantic Health System. The town of Morristown had rejected the hospital's claims for property tax exemptions for the 2006, 2007 and 2008 tax years. The hospital had sought a continuation of its exemption as a nonprofit hospital for those tax years. The case was tried before the Honorable Vito L. Bianco of the Tax Court of New Jersey....
