Family Says Formula Caused Baby's Meningitis

Law360, New York (September 3, 2008, 12:00 AM EDT) -- The family of a baby who was born prematurely has sued the makers of the powdered infant formula that they claim caused the newborn to contract a severe form of meningitis and suffer permanent, severe brain damage.

On Tuesday, the Burk family sued Abbott Laboratories, Bristol Meyers Squibb Co. and Mead Johnson on behalf of their injured toddler Evan, accusing the trio of deliberately failing to issue a proper warning about the formula in dispute.
