Judge Bans Harry Potter Lexicon

Law360, New York (September 8, 2008, 12:00 AM EDT) -- A federal judge ruled Monday that a proposed Harry Potter encyclopedia would infringe the copyrights of author J.K. Rowling and Time Warner unit Warner Bros. Entertainment Inc., banning the publication and awarding damages to the copyright holders.

Finding that the planned book would cause "irreparable injury" to the copyright owners, U.S. District Judge Robert P. Patterson Jr. permanently enjoined the publication of the "Harry Potter Lexicon" and awarded $6,750 in statutory damages to Rowling and Warner Bros.
