7th Circ. Tosses Suit Against NBC For Firing Producer

Law360, New York (September 12, 2008, 12:00 AM EDT) -- The U.S. Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit has tossed a $1 million suit that claimed NBC Universal Inc. breached an employment contract when it fired a producer who said the television show “To Catch a Predator” overstepped ethical boundaries.

A three-judge appeals panel affirmed a lower court's prior dismissal of the suit Thursday.

The panel said that even if NBC's reasons for laying off long-time investigative journalist Marsha Bartel were pretextual, the company did not violate any express or implied terms of its employment...
