Lawyers' Indictment Is Political Meddling: Chevron

Law360, New York (September 12, 2008, 12:00 AM EDT) -- Simmering antipathies between Chevron Corp. and the country of Ecuador are nearing a boil now that Ecuador's prosecutor general has reportedly indicted two of the company’s longtime attorneys involved in a dispute over environmental liabilities.

Ricardo Reis Veiga, an in-house lawyer for Chevron, and outside counsel Rodrigo Perez Pallares were indicted for misleading the government into believing Texaco, Chevron’s predecessor, had completed the remediation of over 100 mines in Ecuador, AmLaw Daily reported Friday.
