How 'Meacham' Will Affect Employers

Law360, New York (September 15, 2008, 12:00 AM EDT) -- Today, more than 50% of all American workers are over the age of 40. From 1996 to 2006, the number of American workers ages 55 and older increased by more than 60%. The U.S. Department of Labor estimates that by 2016, that number will increase again, by almost 50%.

As employers face an aging workforce in these uncertain times, they must make difficult decisions to remain competitive in the global marketplace. At the same time, older employees are challenging employment decisions in record numbers.
