Strange Bedfellows Seek To Delist Polar Bears

Law360, New York (October 6, 2008, 12:00 AM EDT) -- An unlikely coalition of interest groups is challenging the U.S. Department of the Interior's designation of the polar bear as a threatened species under the Endangered Species Act.

In a lawsuit filed in the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia Thursday, the California Cattlemen's Association, the California Forestry Association and the Congress of Racial Equality claimed that the Interior Department and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service relied on speculative science and statistics to designate the polar bear a threatened species.
