UnitedHealth Challenges AG’s Authority

Law360, New York (June 22, 2006, 12:00 AM EDT) -- UnitedHealth Group is trying to stave off yet another lawsuit, challenging the investigation that the Minnesota Attorney General launched earlier this month into possible stock option grants and backdating.

The health insurer told a Minnesota District Court judge that state Attorney General Mike Hatch lacks the legal authority to demand the documents, which date back to 1997, and that his request is overly broad.

Hatch, in turn, told local newspapers that the insurer’s unwillingness to disclose the documents shows it has something to hide.
