Bayer Throws In Towel In Viral Patent Dispute

Law360, New York (June 23, 2006, 12:00 AM EDT) -- Seeking to bury the hatchet, drug maker Bayer Healthcare LLC has agreed to shell out $5 million to settle a patent dispute with blood test maker Gen-Probe Inc. over methods for detecting viruses using nucleic acid probes.

The two companies announced the rapprochement on Thursday, putting to end a heated back-and-forth between Gen-Probe and Bayer that began nearly two and a half years ago.
