House Lawmakers Unveil Climate Change Draft Bill

Law360, New York (October 7, 2008, 12:00 AM EDT) -- U.S. lawmakers unveiled draft climate change legislation Tuesday that proposes an economywide cap on greenhouse gas emissions that aims to reduce certain emissions to 80 percent below 2005 levels over the next four decades.

The proposal from the House Committee on Energy and Commerce leaders outlines a plan for gradually reducing emissions to limit the burden on industry and keep U.S. jobs from going overseas. The plan entails a 6 percent reduction by 2020, 44 percent by 2030 and 80 percent by 2050.
