State AGs Ask Baby Product Cos. To Cut Bisphenol A

Law360, New York (October 13, 2008, 12:00 AM EDT) -- The attorneys general for Connecticut, Delaware and New Jersey have written to 11 companies that manufacture baby bottles and infant formula — including Gerber, Abbott Laboratories and the Walt Disney Co. — asking them to stop using the controversial plastic additive bisphenol A in their products.

The letters, sent Friday, cite studies demonstrating mounting evidence of possible harmful health effects of the allegedly hormone-disrupting chemical to infants' reproductive, neurological and immune systems as a result of the chemical "leach[ing] directly into the infant formula."
