Schmoozing Clients Can Be Risky Business

Law360, New York (October 14, 2008, 12:00 AM EDT) -- Experts say everyone needs to be a salesman in this economy. But taking clients out for drinks, coffee or dinner tends to present a multiplicity of challenges, such as where to go, who should pay and whether to reach for that third martini.

Consultants say schmoozing clients doesn't come naturally to most attorneys, and it can present an etiquette minefield. Still, they say it's worth the risk for the sake of building and maintaining business.
