Law360, New York (December 2, 2015, 10:10 AM EST) -- On Oct. 22, 2015, the U.S. Department of Labor issued Interpretive Bulletin 2015-01 to provide guidance to ERISA fiduciaries "when considering economically targeted investments (ETIs) and investment strategies that take into account environmental, social and governance (ESG) factors." The new bulletin is part of an initiative by the Obama administration to encourage "impact investing." The DOL noted that various terms are utilized for investments that are selected because of collateral economic or social benefits in addition to investment returns.
