EU Lawmakers Vie For Influence Over Emissions Policy

Law360, New York (October 23, 2008, 12:00 AM EDT) -- As the European Union prepares to consider sweeping emissions reductions in an upcoming summit, the European Parliament has scheduled a vote timed earlier than the summit in an attempt restore its diminished influence over the debate.

The European Parliament on Thursday resolved to vote on proposed carbon dioxide emissions reductions after EU members tried to muffle parliamentary influence by deciding to address the environmental policies at a European Council summit meeting on Dec. 11 and 12.
