Berlusconi Faces Trial In Media Fraud Case

Law360, New York (July 7, 2006, 12:00 AM EDT) -- Silvio Berlusconi, the former prime minister of Italy, was ordered Friday to stand trial in Milan over alleged widespread fraud at his family-owned media empire. Some of the charges threaten up to six years in jail.

Berlusconi, a billionaire who is no stranger to allegations of fraud, has denied the charges. But prosecutors in Milan have detailed embezzlement, accounting fraud, tax fraud and money laundering at his embattled broadcaster, Mediaset SpA.
