Russian Regulator Squashes Google Takeover Bid

Law360, New York (October 23, 2008, 12:00 AM EDT) -- In its latest run-in with competition authorities, Google Inc. has had its $140 million bid to buy one of Russia's largest online advertising companies slapped down.

Russia's Federal Anti-monopoly Service declined the petition to acquire 100 percent of the voting shares in ZAO Begun that Google subsidiary Kokuna Holdings Ltd. filed on Wednesday and found that the information and other materials provided with the request failed to satisfy its concerns regarding competition in the online advertising market, according to a statement issued Thursday.
