Fitness Co. Recalls Glitchy Treadmills

Law360, New York (October 29, 2008, 12:00 AM EDT) -- Exercise equipment company Cybex International Inc. has worked with federal regulators to recall thousands of defective treadmills amid reports that the machines suddenly accelerate when in use.

Cybex has recalled approximately 19,000 treadmills after receiving at least 24 reports of malfunctioning treadmills, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission announced Wednesday.

On six occasions the machine’s sudden increase in speed caused individuals to fall off the treadmill. Three reports claim the falls resulted in minor injuries, the CPSC said.
