Republic Settles Shareholder Suit Over Allied Merger

Law360, New York (October 30, 2008, 12:00 AM EDT) -- Waste collection company Republic Services Inc. has agreed to settle two putative class actions brought by shareholders opposed to its pending merger with rival Allied Waste Industries Inc.

The trash hauler said on Thursday it had reached an agreement in principle with the plaintiffs in the lawsuits, filed in state courts in Delaware and Florida, that would resolve all claims against Republic, its board of directors and Allied. The settlement remains subject to approval by the courts, the company said.
