5 Patent Offices To Share Work Worldwide

Law360, New York (October 31, 2008, 12:00 AM EDT) -- The heads of five patent-granting offices from Europe, Asia and the U.S. now have a blueprint for a “work-sharing” plan to pool data, standardize procedures and avoid duplication, the U.S. Patent and Trademark office said Friday.

On Oct. 27 and Oct. 28, the “IP5” met in Jeju, Korea to form a work-sharing plan, which the USPTO said is prudent in light of inventors' tendency to apply for patents in more than one office in an increasingly global economy.
