High Court To Hear Seaman's Punitive Damages Suit

Law360, New York (November 3, 2008, 12:00 AM EST) -- The U.S. Supreme Court has agreed to hear a suit to determine whether seamen may recover punitive damages for personal injuries if it is found that their employers willfully failed to pay the federally mandated “maintenance and cure” under maritime law.

The high court said on Monday that it would hear arguments in the matter, on appeal from the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit.
