FDA OKs Medtronic's New Glucose Monitor

Law360, New York (July 18, 2006, 12:00 AM EDT) -- Medical device maker Medtronic Inc. said Monday it has received U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approval for a doctor-prescribed continuous glucose monitoring system designed to improve diabetes management.

The Guardian Real-Time System, intended for people who frequently monitor their glucose levels, alerts users to high and low glucose levels. A tiny electrode inserted under the skin, the device allows patients to use real-time data and trend analysis to help control glucose levels, Medtronic said.
