EPA Clarifies Status Of Carbon Nanotubes

Law360, New York (November 5, 2008, 12:00 AM EST) -- In an effort to keep chemical manufacturers abreast of the registration requirements for producing carbon nanotubes, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has issued a notice of clarification regarding the nano-sized particles, which have applications in many fields of materials science.

The EPA lodged the two-page notice in the Federal Register on Friday in order to reinforce the agency's determination that carbon nanotubes are chemically distinct from graphite and other allotropes of carbon listed under the federal Toxic Substances Control Act and are therefore subject to treatment...
