Advocacy Group Wants Role In Bell Merger Review

Law360, New York (July 18, 2006, 12:00 AM EDT) -- A Washington, D.C.-based nonprofit advocacy group has asked the court to allow it to weigh in on the AT&T/SBC and Verizon/MCI mergers currently being reviewed in federal court, in a development that could affect the judge’s decision concerning whether or not to approve the merger settlements.

The American Antitrust Institute, Inc. (AAI) contends that a dearth of expert testimony and “incomplete or incorrect” briefings at a July 12 hearing left a record that is insufficient for the court to draw any conclusions.
