Customs Adds Product Safety To Self-Check System

Law360, New York (November 6, 2008, 12:00 AM EST) -- In an ongoing effort to prevent unsafe imports, U.S. Customs and Border Protection will add a product safety component to a program that allows importers to assume responsibility for monitoring their own compliance in exchange for certain benefits.

On Wednesday, CBP announced plans to expand its Importer Self Assessment program to include the Importer Self Assessment Product Safety Pilot, a partnership between CBP, the Consumer Product Safety Commission and importers that will strive to maintain stringent levels of product safety compliance through collaborative work.
