SEC Settlements Up, But Payouts Down

Law360, New York (November 10, 2008, 12:00 AM ET) -- Despite outside criticisms that the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission has not been doing enough to regulate securities markets, enforcement action settlements are set to reach a three-year high, according to a new report released Monday by NERA Economic Consulting.

But the amount of money the SEC extracts from their settlements is in steady decline, the report added.
