Discrimination Suits On The Rise Amid Recession

Law360, New York (November 13, 2008, 12:00 AM EST) -- Discrimination lawsuits filed in federal courts in 2008 outpaced the previous year’s filings, with a surge in company layoffs and a series of U.S. Supreme Court rulings prompting more individuals to assert claims, according to the 2009 Law360 Litigation Almanac.

The 2009 Law360 Litigation Almanac found 14,236 civil rights lawsuits were filed in 2008, a slight uptick from the 11,307 filings during the same period the previous year.
