NOAA Deems 3 Pesticides Harmful To Salmon

Law360, New York (November 18, 2008, 12:00 AM EST) -- After many years of litigation, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration issued a biological opinion Tuesday that found that three chemicals used in pesticides likely to jeopardize 27 populations of federally listed salmon and steelhead on the West Coast.

NOAA scientists found that diazonin, malathion and chlorpyrifos can be lethal to salmon at certain concentrations, can impair their ability to smell prey, can reduce the amount of small fish and insects available to them for food and can make their swimming erratic.
