EPA Aims To List Some Drugs As Hazardous Waste

Law360, New York (November 21, 2008, 12:00 AM EST) -- In an attempt to protect water resources from further chemical contamination, federal regulators have proposed classifying certain pharmaceuticals as hazardous waste and requiring hospitals and health care centers to dispose of them accordingly.

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency on Thursday proposed adding hazardous pharmaceutical waste to the Universal Waste Rule and has submitted the proposal to the Federal Register, which will publish it in the next two weeks for public comment over the following 60 days.
