Greens Sue Over Walrus Endangered Species Petition

Law360, New York (December 4, 2008, 12:00 AM EST) -- The Center for Biological Diversity has launched a lawsuit to force the U.S. government to consider listing the Pacific walrus under the Endangered Species Act.

The complaint, lodged Wednesday in the U.S. District Court for the District of Alaska, claims U.S. Secretary of the Interior Dirk Kempthorne and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service have delayed a decision on the walrus’ status and failed to reply to an ESA petition within the mandatory 90-day period.
