DOJ Demands Divestitures In Republic-Allied Merger

Law360, New York (December 4, 2008, 12:00 AM EST) -- The U.S. Department of Justice will require Republic Services Inc. and Allied Waste Industries Inc. to divest assets in 15 metropolitan areas in order to move forward with a $4.5 billion merger joining the country's second- and third-largest garbage haulers.

DOJ antitrust regulators said Wednesday they had reached a settlement with the companies, requiring them to divest 87 commercial waste collection routes, nine landfills and 10 transfer stations, together with ancillary assets.
