Toy Cos. To Pay $1.8M To Settle Calif. Lead Claims

Law360, New York (December 5, 2008, 12:00 AM EST) -- Eight toy makers, including Mattel Inc. and Marvel Entertainment, will pay a total of nearly $1.8 million to settle a state lawsuit that accused the companies of failing to warn customers that their toys contained lead or lead compounds in violation of California's Proposition 65.

Most of the toy companies also agreed to meet new federal standards for lead and lead paint in toys by Dec. 1, instead of eight months from now, when the new federal laws go into effect, California's attorney general said in...
