Deals Rumor Mill: Bayer, Oaktree Capital, Valeant

By Benjamin Horney (June 10, 2016, 5:21 PM EDT) -- Another Bayer AG bid to takeover Monsanto Co. has been rejected by the U.S. agrochemical company, according to a Friday report from the Wall Street Journal, just a few weeks after the German chemical and drug giant's $62 billion cash offer was rebuffed. According to the report, this latest pitch was made within the last few days, but Monsanto told Bayer it will not open discussions until the company ups the amount of money it is willing to pay. This latest approach came in the form of a letter Bayer sent to Monsanto requesting access to detailed business information, the report noted. The letter also said Bayer has already lined up financing for the deal and is not worried about regulatory roadblocks. Still, the two sides are currently at a stalemate, the report said....
