Samsung Ordered To Pay $7.3M In China Patent Case

Law360, New York (December 29, 2008, 12:00 AM EST) -- A Chinese court has reportedly ordered South Korea-based Samsung Electronics Co. to pay $7.3 million to China-based Holley Communications for infringing a cell phone patent.

Xinhua, China's state news agency, reported that the Intermediate People's Court of Hangzhou ruled Dec. 20 that Samsung had infringed Holley's patent. The company was ordered to pay 50 million yuan, the largest amount ever awarded in a patent case involving China's telecom industry, Xinhua reported.
