NMFS Weighs ESA Listing For Atlantic Wolffish

Law360, New York (January 5, 2009, 12:00 AM EST) -- The U.S. National Marine Fisheries Service has begun a status review to determine whether the Atlantic wolffish should be listed as endangered or threatened after an environmental group's petition for protection of the species.

In a petition asking the U.S. Department of Commerce to protect the wolffish, a 40-pound fish with large canine teeth and a long tail, the Conservation Law Foundation argued in October that the species was facing extinction as a result of severe habitat loss from fishing activities.
