HHS Slams FDA Over Conflict-Of-Interest Monitoring

Law360, New York (January 12, 2009, 12:00 AM EST) -- The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has fallen behind in tracking potential financial conflicts of interest between medical professionals who conduct clinical trials and the pharmaceutical companies that sponsor them, according to a new study released by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.

On Monday, the HHS published the results of its look into the FDA's oversight of clinical investigators' financial information, revealing that only 1 percent of investigators have disclosed a financial interest.
