QLT Could Pay Mass. Hospital $113M In Visudyne Case

Law360, New York (January 13, 2009, 12:00 AM EST) -- An appeals court has affirmed a damages award against QLT Inc. — which the company said would amount to $113.2 million — in a long-running dispute with a Harvard Medical School affiliate over the eye treatment Visudyne.

The U.S. Court of Appeals for the First Circuit affirmed a judgment holding the Canadian biopharmaceutical company liable under Massachusetts state law for unfair trade practices and unjust enrichment for the sale of Visudyne, a treatment for macular degeneration and other eye diseases.
