Cemex To Pay $2M To Settle Clean Air Act Claims

Law360, New York (January 15, 2009, 12:00 AM EST) -- Leading cement manufacturer Cemex California Cement LLC agreed Thursday to fork over $2 million and install advanced emissions controls to settle allegations by federal prosecutors that the company violated the Clean Air Act.

The consent decree, filed Thursday in the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California, resolves the U.S. Department of Justice’s allegations that Cemex illegally released dangerous pollutants, including nitrogen oxide, carbon monoxide and sulfur dioxide, at one of the nation’s largest cement plants.
