High Court To Hear Appeal On NY AG's Lending Probe

Law360, New York (January 16, 2009, 12:00 AM EST) -- The U.S. Supreme Court has agreed to hear a case that addresses whether state governments have the authority to investigate national banks, a dispute that grew out of New York Attorney General Andrew Cuomo's probe into discriminatory lending practices in New York.

The high court said Friday that it would hear an appeal of a ruling by the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit, which decided that Cuomo was barred from investigating the banks because the matter fell outside state jurisdiction.
