Coldplay Faces The Music: Satriani V. Martin

Law360, New York (January 20, 2009, 12:00 AM EST) -- A high-profile copyright infringement battle was initiated recently when guitar legend Joe Satriani sued pop-rock band Coldplay.

In his complaint, Satriani, who is famous for his guitar virtuosity, claims that Coldplay “copied and incorporated substantial, original portions” of Satriani’s instrumental song “If I Could Fly” in Coldplay’s ubiquitous “Viva La Vida,” which recently won two Grammy awards.
