Senate Approves Climate Expert Chu To Helm DOE

Law360, New York (January 21, 2009, 12:00 AM EST) -- The U.S. Senate confirmed President Barack Obama's pick for secretary of energy on Tuesday, tasking Nobel Prize-winning physicist and climate change expert Steven Chu to head the agency.

Chu will have his hands full, considering Obama has pledged to invest $150 billion in the next 10 years “to catalyze private efforts to build a clean energy future.”

Obama also has pointed to creating millions of green jobs as a hallmark of both his environmental and economic plans.
