More Partner Lateral Moves Than Ever Expected In '09

Law360, New York (January 22, 2009, 12:00 AM EST) -- Amid the economic downturn and widespread associate layoffs, a record number of partners will make lateral moves in 2009, legal consultants predict.

There is more job movement in unstable markets such as the current one because lawyers don't want to wait it out at poorly performing firms, consultants said. The economic downturn has also prompted many partners to reassess their careers and consider whether they are in the best spot for the long haul, experts said.
