Retail Giants Sued Over Customized Web Pages

Law360, New York (January 23, 2009, 12:00 AM EST) -- A patent-holding company has sued a slew of retailers, including Blockbuster Inc. and Toys “R” Us Inc., accusing them of infringing a patent for tracking consumer preferences over the Internet and delivering personalized Web pages to potential customers.

Texas-based SBJ IP Holdings 1 LLC filed the suit Thursday in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Texas, accusing the companies of maintaining Web sites for their businesses that provide precustomized displays — including recommendations capability — that infringe the claims of the patent-at-issue....
