EU Probes Planned Lufthansa, Brussels Airlines Deal

Law360, New York (January 26, 2009, 12:00 AM EST) -- The European Commission has opened an investigation into Lufthansa AG's planned acquisition of rival Brussels Airlines, citing concerns that the deal could impede competition.

The commission said Monday that its initial review of the proposed merger, which was announced in September, has indicated that the deal could reduce competition, especially for passenger transport between Belgium and Germany and Belgium and Switzerland.
