Microsoft Settles File Encryption Patent Suit

Law360, New York (January 29, 2009, 12:00 AM EST) -- Microsoft Corp. and a Wilmington, Del.-based patent holder have agreed to resolve a patent feud over file encrypting software found in Windows operating system products.

On Tuesday, Microsoft and MAZ Technologies Inc. filed a joint motion to dismiss the ongoing case after agreeing to a confidential settlement and licensing agreement.

MAZ lodged the suit in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Texas in July, alleging that the Redmond, Wash.-based software giant’s Encrypting File System software, which is part of Microsoft’s Windows operating system...
