EPA Extends Comment Period On Drug Waste Rule

Law360, New York (January 30, 2009, 12:00 AM EST) -- The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has agreed to extend the period for public comment on its proposed rule for classifying certain pharmaceuticals as hazardous waste and requiring hospitals and health care centers to dispose of them accordingly.

The EPA extended the comment period until March 4, providing an additional 30 days for comments to its plans to amend the Universal Waste Rule in order to protect water resources from further chemical contamination, according to a notice published Friday in the Federal Register.
