EU Targets Prestressing Steel Cos. In Cartel Probe

Law360, New York (February 5, 2009, 12:00 AM EST) -- The European Union has targeted several manufacturers of prestressing steel used in the construction industry as part of the antitrust authority's investigation into a possible cartel in the sector.

Investigators sent statements of objections to companies suspected of participating in the anti-competitive behavior in October, the European Commission said Thursday.

The companies, which the regulator did not identify, have already replied to the letters, and the commission is now examining the responses, according to the EC.
