Maytag Sues Whirlpool Over Ice Dispenser Patent

Law360, New York (October 17, 2003, 12:00 AM EDT) -- Appliance maker Maytag Corp. filed a lawsuit against rival Whirlpool Corp. in federal court in Des Moines, Iowa, alleging that Whirlpool infringed a patent for a crushed-ice dispenser in refrigerators, Bloomberg News reported Friday.

The lawsuit concerns a 1991 patent for ice dispensers that "selectively dispense either whole ice pieces or crushed ice" with fewer parts than earlier models, according to Bloomberg News.

Maytag is seeking a restraining order barring the sale of any infringing patents and cash compensation for the use of its innovation....
