Chevron Contests Ecuador Geologist’s $27B Appraisal

Law360, New York (February 12, 2009, 12:00 AM EST) -- Chevron Corp. has fired back in the long-standing environmental lawsuit against Ecuadorian state-owned oil company Petroecuador, claiming that a court-appointed geologist grossly miscalculated the damages allegedly caused by Chevron’s pollution in the Amazon to total $27 billion.

Chevron lodged objections to geologist Richard Cabrera’s assessment of the environmental damages on Wednesday, alleging that his finding of $11 billion in new damages was the result of “fraud, gross errors and conflict of interest.”
