Sens. Introduce Bill To Stop Food Smuggling

Law360, New York (February 17, 2009, 12:00 AM EST) -- Two senators have reintroduced a bill that aims to clamp down on smuggled food and agriculture products — items they say pose serious risks to the country's health, economy and security.

Sens. Bob Casey, D-Pa., and Chuck Grassley, R-Iowa, introduced the EAT SAFE Act of 2009, S. 429, on Thursday. Among other things, the proposed legislation would authorize additional funding to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration and U.S. Department of Agriculture for the detection and tracking of smuggled food and agriculture products.
