Pfizer Unit May Have To Pay $153M In Fraud Case

Law360, New York (February 18, 2009, 12:00 AM ET) -- A Pfizer Inc. subsidiary could be forced to pay at least $153 million after a Wisconsin jury found the drugmaker guilty of defrauding the state’s Medicaid program by grossly inflating average wholesale prices used to calculate government rebates.

After a two-week trial, a Dane County Circuit Court jury found Monday that Pharmacia Inc. violated the Wisconsin Medicaid Fraud law more than 1.4 million times. Under the statute, each violation carries a minimum fine of $100 and a maximum fine of $15,000. A hearing to determine the...
